The cam wheel rotates from the keyed adapter through (2) sealed bearings rated to 20,000 RPM. The shaft uses o-ring seals to prevent any oil leaks, and retaining rings to prevent the shaft from walking. OEM shifter box assembly. The OEM shifter box assembly is typically rusted, the bell crank bushing pin is worn from years of use and the polymer shifter cup is sloppy. Introducing the Racer X shift box, we started with the mounting plate that is bolted to the body. The mounting plate is CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and it eliminates the rubber grommets or shifter base bushings to provide a solid mounting foundation for the remaining components. The cable stay attaches to the mounting plate with stainless steel hardware, the cable stay completely encompasses the shifter cable head and retains the OEM spring clips. This reduces the possibility of any flexing in the cable during shifting. Moving on to the MR2 shift cup socket, we machined the internal diameter to be smaller to apply additional pressure on the worn out OEM polymer cups which brings new life to the feel of your shifting. The bell crank now uses a precision sealed bearing and a new OEM spring. The spring sits on a CNC machined bushing providing optimal tension and translates into the feedback that a new shifter should provide. The catch can \/ air oil separator works by intercepting the air oil mixture from the PCV, and through a series of baffles, retains the oil in the catch can and allows the air to flow through. As the air and oil droplets enter the catch can they are diverted around the spring\/inlet tube. This initial diversion creates a swirling effect that is continued through the filtration process. Each baffle utilizes an offset hole pattern which can be rotated or flipped to promote an increased swirling effect which can be seen in the CFD analysis below. We specifically designed the baffles and perforation plate to assist in allowing the air to flow freely and provide the oil every opportunity to stay in the catch can. Once through the internal baffle system, the air will pass through the final perforation disc before exiting back into the vehicle system. The Racer X shifter eliminates the OEM polymer cup which is often found completely worn out and falling apart after 30 years. The shift lever is cut from 7075-T6 aluminum and features a large oval pocket for extra clearance around the bell crank at the base. It uses an oil impregnated bronze insert for low friction rotation and effortless shifting. The base components are machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and use precision ball bearings for easy side to side movement. Finally, the bell crank is engaged with another 7075-T6 aluminum gear selector pin and uses a delrin bushing for smooth transitions between gears. The shifter socket utilizes adjustable limiters, which reduces over-throw that is commonly found in OEM type shifters. When adjusted properly, this will translate into less movement during shifting.
